US President Donald Trump on Thursday criticised Vladimir Putin after Russia launched a massive strike on Ukraine overnight that killed nine people and injured over 80. While expressing anger over the attack, Trump said that the strikes conducted at “very bad timing” were “not necessary.”
“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. “Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has to cut short his trip to South Africa after Russia’s assault that damaged various plants in Kyiv that produced “rocket fuel and gunpowder.” According to the Ukrainian leader, Moscow fired over 70 missiles, including ballistic and conducted around 150 drone attacks.
“Overnight, the Russian armed forces carried out a massive strike with long-range air, land and sea-based weapons, and drones, on Ukraine’s aviation, aerospace, machine-building and armoured vehicle industries,” the Russian defence ministry said, adding, “The objectives of the strike have been achieved”.
Taking to X, Zelenskyy said, “It has been 44 days since Ukraine agreed to a full ceasefire and a halt to strikes. This was a proposal from the United States. And it has been 44 days of Russia continuing to kill our people and evading tough pressure and accountability for its actions.”
“It is extremely important that everyone around the world sees and understands what is really happening. Nearly 70 missiles, including ballistic ones. And about 150 attack drones,” he added.
He also shared photos and a video of the attack that captured the aftermath. Authorities were seen rescuing people and removing rubble of the destroyed buildings.
