NEW DELHI: A businessman from Shahdara was duped of Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of investment. Police nabbed two people and bound down two others.
Police said that on March 6, a complaint was received from a resident of Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara.
In the complaint, he stated that he received an unknown phone call regarding an investment opportunity. The fraudsters gave him some tasks to complete, and after finishing them, they promised he would earn a large sum of money.
On this pretext, the complainant transferred Rs 3,09,500 into the bank accounts provided by the fraudsters. When no money was credited to his account as promised, and all contact numbers were switched off, he realised he was cheated. A case was then registered, the police said.
DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam formed a team led by Manish Kumar Verma, including Sub-Inspector Shweta Sharma, to catch the accused.
Investigations revealed that the stolen amount was deposited into three different bank accounts. Raids were conducted across the city, during which cops apprehended Farhan and Ayaan. One account holder, Fardeen, was bound down, and he disclosed that he provided his bank account details to Farhan in the presence of Danish.
Danish, who was later bound down, also handed over his bank account to Farhan. Further, Fardeen disclosed that he gave Farhan his cheque book and ATM card, which was handed over to Ayaan, the police said.
According to the police, the suspects wanted to live a lavish lifestyle, which led them to commit the crime.
“Bound down” means that a person is required to appear before the investigating officer whenever requested. The person must also inform the police if they plan to leave the city.
