New Delhi: Speaker Vijender Gupta on Thursday said that the Delhi assembly would set up solar panels of 500 KVA capacity in the next 100 days to save on its monthly electricity bill of Rs 15 lakh.
Addressing a press conference a day after the culmination of the budget session, Gupta said the Delhi assembly would promote solar energy to send a message to the people to adopt it and ensure zero bill against electricity consumption. The speaker also said that the assembly had targeted to go paperless before the monsoon session by setting up the National e-Vidhan Application. “Under the project, a media desk equipped with 25 computers with internet connection and printers will also be set up,” Gupta said.
Giving details of the functioning of the Delhi assembly during the inaugural and budget session, Gupta said in 40 days of the formation of the new govt in the capital, two sessions were held and properly prorogued. “The seven-day budget session was conducted for a record 27.6 hours. The budget was tabled on March 25 and was discussed for 7.1 hours by 36 members, including those from the opposition AAP,” Gupta said. He added that the only calling attention accepted in the session was also from the opposition.
“But it is surprising that despite being in the assembly premises, the AAP MLAs did not attend the discussion on their motion. I want to ask the opposition why they chose not to attend the discussion and lied that they were stopped from speaking on the issue of power cuts,” the Speaker said.
The Speaker claimed that one day of the session was kept for private members’ resolutions and a record 78 matters were raised under the special mention rule. “Eight reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General on the performance of Delhi govt were also tabled in the House, but the opposition did not take part in the discussions. A resolution under Rule 107 was also passed in the session, disposing of over 300 matters taken up by committees of the previous assembly,” he said.
Gupta said the celebration of the Hindu New Year for the first time in the assembly was yet another achievement.
