But, it is well-known that Ohtani cannot be a part of Team USA as he is not a citizen of the USA. However, Ohtani will play in Team Japan for the WBC 2026. He has previously represented Japan in the World Baseball Classic and has led the Samurai Japan team to victory in the WBC 2023 final, which was against Team USA.
Fan war started the moment MLB announced Judge as the Team USA captain. One user went on to tweet, “Ohtani’s ready” with an image of Shohei in the samurai costume, a reference to Team Japan’s official name, Samurai Japan.
