New Delhi: Days after a youth attacked a girl with a knife and then stabbed himself in Delhi Cantt, police recorded his statement. The youth claimed that he had suspected that the girl was talking to another man, which led to an argument, and he stabbed her in an isolated area.
According to police sources, though 20-year-old Amit was still hospitalised, his condition improved, and he gave his statement on Thursday. “A day before the stabbing incident, they had a serious argument over the issue,” a source said.
According to police, Delhi Cantt police station received information about the stabbing at Kirby Place bus stop on Monday. “We found that the youth and the girl knew each other for the past year and were friends. He stabbed her in the neck and abdomen, and then attempted self-harm by stabbing himself in the stomach,” police said.
A source disclosed that the investigators found that “they weren’t getting along and hadn’t spoken for a few days”. The youth called the 19-year-old girl to meet him on Sunday, the source said.
A case under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered.
According to the girl’s family, she was employed by a shop in Sadar Bazar and Amit, too, worked in a shop in the same market. They got to know each other there, relatives said. The girl is out of danger, but still in hospital.
